About Us

Hockney experience in body building covers more than three decades, specialising in the design and manufacture of road transport equipment for both Australian and overseas markets.

In the 1960's, ALCAN TRANSPORT EQUIPMENT designed and built the first Aluminium tray bodies in Australia and in a short space of time were producing in excess of 1000 units per month with the majority of the bodies being fitted to the HOLDEN 1 TONNE CHASSIS. Bodies were exported to the Pacific, Asia, and the Middle East.

The early 70,s saw the manufacture of the first Department of Defence bodies, and the company's expertise  in the design and manufacture of these products moved the company firmly into the position of market leader in the 90's. Alcan Transport Equipment merged with Hockney Pty. Ltd. in 1981, in 1999 Hockney Pty. Ltd. was acquired by Holmwood Highgate (road tanker manufacturers) and is known today as Hockney Engineers.

The company became more involved in the development and manufacture of specialised service bodies and transport equipment for Government fleets, defence forces, both local and overseas, and major private fleet operations.

In August 1991, Hockney decided to develop a tray body, capable of re-establishing the company as a market leader in Australia. The design criteria called for a unit that was cost competitive with all opposition units, yet incorporating design characteristics including optimum strength, safety, simplicity of assembly and repair, with a clean stylish appearance. This tray is marketed as the "NEW GENERATION TRAY".

The end product has met all of our design requirements and since production of the first tray in January 1993, Hockney has made local and export sales of its new tray kits and have successfully negotiated licensing agreements with overseas manufacturers.

Hockney Engineers is proudly 100% Australian owned.

Hockney Engineers have also adopted work practises that meet the requirements of Standards Australia for quality assurance.
